The Grafton Games are our town’s excuse to build something a little ridiculous and a lot of fun.
They’re an obstacle-style event created by the businesses of Let’s Grow Grafton in Grafton, New Hampshire. Not a corporate race. Not a mud marathon that trucks in and out. Just us. Designing things, setting them up in a field, and inviting people to show up and try them.
Local businesses sponsor and build the obstacles. Families run, walk, cheer, laugh, and usually end up a little dusty and smiling.
And yes, there will be mess. Color dust. Slime. Possibly something that looks like it came out of a science experiment gone slightly sideways. Nothing dangerous. Nothing extreme. Just playful chaos that makes good photos and even better stories.
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little colorful.
The goal isn’t to exhaust anyone. It’s to create something energetic, visible, and welcoming that brings people together. It should feel playful. It should feel like something that could only happen here.
Grafton is where it’s built, but the community around it has always been bigger than the town line. The same neighbors who show up at our markets, visit our shops, and support us online are part of what makes this work.
This event is for them too.
Before the official noon start, we’ll offer a quieter, low-sensory version of the Grafton Games. During this time, things will be less wet, less messy, and less loud, with no character or inflatable releases. It’s a great option for younger kids, anyone with sensory sensitivities, or those who simply prefer a calmer experience.
The Grafton Games are not designed as a major fundraiser. Let’s Grow Grafton is not a fundraising group, and the goal is simply to cover event expenses, create something memorable for the community, and then give the rest back. Any funds raised after expenses will be donated directly to the Grafton Recreation Committee to help support future community events and recreation projects in town.
We have also invited Grafton’s town-associated nonprofits to be part of the day as community vendors. They are welcome to set up a tent space to sell items, hold raffles, look for sponsors, share information about their organization, recruit volunteers, or simply help people better understand what they do. If they would like to set up a simple game or activity, that is welcome too.
We are not asking nonprofits to build obstacles or take on extra event planning. This is meant to be a simple, low-key opportunity to be part of a fun community day while connecting with residents and visitors.
Event setup will take place in the morning, with all vendors and participants ready to go by 10:30 AM. From 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we will offer a quieter sensory hour with reduced noise, less chaos, and a calmer version of the course for families and participants who would prefer a lower-sensory experience. At noon, the full course opens and the official Grafton Games chaos begins.
Every year will look a little different. That’s part of the charm.
Held each summer in Grafton, New Hampshire, the Grafton Games bring local businesses and families together for a playful obstacle-style community event.
You do not have to live in Grafton to come.
We know a lot of the people supporting Grafton businesses come from neighboring towns. You’ve shown up for us in small and steady ways, and this is one of the ways we get to return that.
Consider this your invitation to come over and play.
Expect light obstacle challenges that are more “this is fun” than “why did I sign up for this.” Expect local businesses set up on the field. Expect laughter, color, and the occasional slime moment.
You can move at your own pace. Run it. Walk it. Do it alongside your kids. Cheer someone else on. There’s room for all of that.
We will also offer a sensory-friendly hour with reduced noise and lower stimulation for families who need a quieter experience.
This is not about winning something enormous. It’s about participating. It’s about showing up and being part of it.
Closed-toe shoes are a good idea. White outfits are a bold choice.
More details about registration, timing, and what to bring will be shared as we get closer.
If you’re planning a full day in town, the Grafton Guide and our interactive business map can help you find places to eat, shop, and explore while you’re here.
